Synopsis
Paul Verhoeven has fashioned a visually spectacular, morbidly funny comic book adventure that seems to merge the fresh-faced youths of the Archie Comics with the save-the-planet mandate of “Buck Rogers.’

FCBDImaginary Worlds

512celestialatticIt’s a light day for the geek calendar, so we have time to check in with Josh Harlan, the co-owner of Imaginary Worlds along with Eric Begin. This weekend is Free Comic Book Day, and that is a very special day for Imaginary Worlds. They will be celebrating their third anniversary. You can find them at 13446 Cedar Rd, Cleveland Heights, Ohio across from Melt and Critical Hit Games.

220px-Changes_in_Astounding_SF_and_Analog_SF_title_layour_in_1960We also have time for a quick look at Analog Science Fiction and Fact magazine, more commonly just called Analog. It is a venerable flagship of the print science fiction world. We look at its deep history and birth as Astounding in 1930.  This month’s issue features a short story by Cleveland’s own Marie Vibbert, so I thought I’d talk it up. You can read her story, “The Willing Body, the Reluctant Heart” in the May/June 2018 issue of Analog, on newsstands now.

This is Hermes…

S11.1HermesThis is Hermes.

Yes, I know someone stole his wiener and left the beans. Quit looking at ’em.

He is the god of herds, trade, heralds, athletes and thieves. He gets around. He is also the god of roads.

What I want to know, Cleveland, is WHAT DID WE DO TO PISS THIS GUY OFF, and how do we remedy it?

Because to judge from the state of our roads, I think one of you stole his wiener.

Today! NOWS Wargaming minicon.

Grab your dice, boardgames and victorious spirit and hit the road for Berea this morning. The Northern Ohio Wargaming Society (NOWS) hosts their second gaming minicon of the year. Join them for a day of gaming on today, April 28, at 9 am until Midnight, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, located at 50 East Bagley Road, Berea, Ohio.

According to their meetup page:

NOWS

NOWS is one of Ohio’s oldest Wargaming clubs, having been a group for over 30 years. Our group’s purpose is to promote gaming of all types. Our primary focus is on miniature war games, however, we actively promote board games and role-playing games. Membership is therefore open to those 16 years and up who enjoy playing and running games of all types. NOWS membership gives you the opportunity to attend our three Minicons which are scheduled through out the year at no additional cost. You also will receive our bi-monthly newsletter. Membership also allows gamers the opportunity to meet (and game with) other war gamers in the greater Cleveland Area. Many of our members regularly attend conventions across the country. Our efforts in the promotion of our hobby include staging NOWSCON one of Ohio’s oldest continuing gaming conventions generally held the last weekend in September. We also regularly sponsor games at local game stores, other conventions and various members’ homes.
