Our Celestial Pick for this weekend’s geekiest activity is Sunday’s March for Science in Public Square. Yes, that is the day AFTER the national March in DC. You’ll have enough time leftover to buy your Hamilton tickets, catch a Friday the 13th showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show in Oberlin, catch the 40th Anniversary showing of Grease, or attend the Survival Sunday Walking Dead event.
It is time, again, to honor all those feats of science with your feet at the second annual March for Science. We are unabashedly PRO-SCIENCE here at Celestial Attic, the only true geek position. That means we need to push back when we see the most productive form of human enquiry ever devised come under organized political attack.
The first March for Science organized itself in response to the political appointments and anti-science views of the incoming Trump administration.
If you’ve been following along at home, it hasn’t gotten much better. A few of the year’s anti-science hits:
Simply put, it’s time to march again! Cleveland’s branch of the national March for Science will be held at Public Square from 10 am until 1pm on April 15, 2018. In their own words:
Welcome to the March for Science – Cleveland! Speakers and activities at this year’s March will take place from approximately 10am-1pm on April 15, 2018, with the March itself stepping off from Cleveland’s Public Square around 12pm. March for Science is a celebration of our passion for science and a call to support and safeguard the scientific community. Policy changes over the past year have caused heightened worry among scientists, and the tremendous outpouring of support has made clear that these concerns are also shared by millions of people around the world. The mischaracterization of science as a partisan issue, which has been used by some policymakers to deny overwhelming evidence, is a critical and urgent matter. It is time for people who support scientific research and evidence-based policies to take a public stand!
The Cleveland March for Science is a satellite event of the national march, with a flavor all its own. Please adhere to our Social Media Conduct Policy: https://www.facebook.com/download/preview/1426209390756667
